22 Then was brought to him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb; and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. 23 And all the people were amazed and said, Is not this the son of David? 24 But when the Pharisees heard it they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. 25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: 26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? 27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges . 28 But if I cast our devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you. 29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house. 30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad. 31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: 32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

 

Jesus was always trying to teach us something. Sometimes we hear it and other times not so much. He uses this physical restoration to the blind man to symbolize spiritual wakening. He contrasts the blind man who gains both physical and spiritual sight with the religious leaders who could see physically but were spiritually blind to see who Jesus was. This causes me to question while I am blessed with physical sight do I miss what is the spiritual sight before me? I feel that is often the case. I see the sunrise through my bedroom windows when I wake in the morning and always say a prayer of gratitude for another glorious day the Lord has given me before I rise. Recently someone said to me that along with thanks in the morning she asks God a question. She says, “Lord what miracle will I see today?” She is looking for that spiritual sight!

Another lesson we see is Jesus teaching us is that affliction is an opportunity for God’s power to be displayed. He reminds us that everybody’s blessings and healing should ultimately lead us to a closer, worshipful relationship with God. Often it is so much easier to praise the Lord when we are enriched with blessings in our life. On the other hand, when we are in a place where we are in need of healing it can be more challenging. But here Jesus is telling us that by the spirit of the Holy Ghost the kingdom of God is come unto us!

Dear Lord, Let us open our hearts and minds to the spiritual sight of knowing Jesus and the unending love you bestow on us today and each day of our lives. Remind us to look for miracles each day.
