To God, the Great Creator

What a wildly wonderful world, God! You made it all, with wisdom at Your side, made earth overflow with your wonderful creations.

Oh, look – the deep, wide sea, brimming with fish past counting, sardines and sharks and salmon. Ships plow those waters, and Leviathan, your pet dragon romps in them.

All the creatures look expectantly to you to give them their meals on time. You come and they gather around; You open Your hand and they eat from it.

If You turned Your back, they'd die in a minute – take back your Spirit and they die, revert to original mud; send out Your Spirit and they spring to life – the whole countryside in bloom and blossom.

The glory of God – let it last forever! Let God enjoy His creation! He takes one look at earth and triggers an earthquake, points a finger at the mountains, and volcanoes erupt.

Oh, let me sing to God all my life long, sing hymns to my God as long as I live! Oh, let my song please Him; I'm so pleased to be singing to God. Oh my soul bless God.

--The Message (Eugene Peterson)

Psalm 104 describes for us the wonders of creation and God's control of life. As I write this in mid-April, spring has had a very sporadic beginning, and yet, Genesis 8:22 assures us that as long as the earth remains, we will have the seasons. As you read this, spring is in full bloom, and we are nearing summer.

Settle yourself. Look around you and thank God for the innumerable items in His creation, not only in your natural surroundings, but also in the people that you know and love, as well as those whom you do not know. Try to fathom the enormity of the supreme power that God has over all. He gives us air to breathe, the ability to breathe, enables to laugh and cry and speak. Contemplating it is truly overwhelming.

Each of us has been given different gifts by God. Thank Him for each one as you become aware of them. Something as simple as a smile can carry the love of God to another one of God's children. You would be amazed at the potential that God sees in you. Ask Him to show you how to use your gifts to His glory.

Because God has given me the love and gift of music, Psalm 104:33 is one of my favorite Scriptures - “I will sing to the Lord as long as I live. I will praise my God to my last breath.” Search the Scriptures for one that expresses your thanksgiving to God for whatever is precious to you and use it to praise Him as often as you can...or write your own expression of thanksgiving. It will lift your spirits and please Him as well.

Oh glorious, Creator God! We praise and thank you for the gift of life and the ability to enjoy Your creation. Help us as we search for ways to show You and Your world the appreciation and love that fills our hearts! In Jesus' Name, Amen.
