7 For I endure insults for your sake; humiliation is written all over my face.
8 Even my own brothers pretend they don’t know me; they treat me like a stranger.
9 Passion for your house has consumed me, and the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me. 10 When I weep and fast, they scoff at me.
16 Answer my prayers, O Lord, for your unfailing love is wonderful.
Take care of me, for your mercy is so plentiful.
17 Don’t hide from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in deep trouble!
18 Come and redeem me; free me from my enemies.
Reading these verses reveals David’s heavy, raw emotions. He felt persecuted by his enemies for honoring God. He was mocked and suffered isolation because of his obedience to God. But he had confidence in God. He did not waver in his faith, he was turning to God as he knew he was not forgotten. He knew his God was merciful.
In times of my life when I feel persecuted or wronged, or mocked, and life is not fair, it does fill me with the same emotions David expressed. And it is so hard not to get defensive and take a strong stand to protect myself if for nothing else! I long to take lesson from David and turn to God. He is my redeemer and my safe place.
Heavenly Father, help me to remember to look up to You in times of distress, and to react in prayer and thanksgiving for Your loving kindness and mercy. Give me strength to keep seeking you through the challenging times. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
