20 Peter turned and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them; he was the one who had reclined next to Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is it that is going to betray you?” 21 When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? Follow me!” 23 So the rumor spread among the brothers and sisters that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?”

24 This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true. 25 But there are also many other things that Jesus did; if every one of them were written down, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.

I love the gospel of John. It begins with this cosmic look at Jesus: Jesus present at creation, Jesus removing his divinity and taking on flesh to walk amongst His people. It resonates within my soul.

And in the end, John finishes his story of the Good News with a simple yet profound statement: “But there are also many other things that Jesus did; if every one of them were written down, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.” We marvel at all the things we read in the four Gospels.

It is humbling to hear Christ’s words and to listen to the miracles He performed. And this is just a fraction of what He did. Hundreds more were healed. Thousands more than we see depicted were changed by the love of Jesus. “The world itself could not contain the books that were written.” Now think of all the lives that have been changed by the life and death of a wandering rabbi over 2000 years ago. It should uplift our hearts and inspire us. I want to be part of those unwritten books. I want to add to those invisible pages that chronicle the changing of the world.

Father, Invite me into the story of your Kingdom. Amen
