The reading for today is Psalm 119: 65-72.
65 You have dealt well with your servant, O Lord, according to your word. 66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge, for I believe in your commandments. 67 Before I was humbled I went astray, but now I keep your word. 68 You are good and do good, teach me your statues.
69 The arrogant smear me with lies, but with my whole heart I keep you precepts. 70 Their hearts are fat and gross, but I delight in your law. 71 It is good for me that I was humbled, so that I might learn your statues. 72 The law of your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
What a wonderful recognition of the supreme value of God’s Word. It is beyond the value of silver, gold, and any other material object that we can fathom. We need to listen and keep the commandments. At times we sin and go in the wrong direction. Then we are brought back to understanding and keeping the laws. Others may try to discredit us by spreading lies and they are not operating with a sincere heart. Because of trusting God, by following his statues, we will keep the faith. We walk in God’s love because we are following the way of the Lord.
Let us pray: Dear God, Please be with us at times of temptation and when we choose not to listen to and follow your Word. Bring us back into the fold by remembering that you are always teaching the good judgment and knowledge to follow you and keep your commandments.
Prayer Concern: Remember those who will be starting the school year this month. Pray for their good health, wise judgment and understanding as things transition throughout the school year.
