The reading for today is Psalm 1 verse 6.
6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.
Psalm 1 declares the obvious. Blessed are humans who walk in the ways of the Lord. Those who do not follow God are destined for a life of doubt, fear and tribulation. Verse 6 is unequivocal that being wicked will not lead to anything good.
As I reflected on this Psalm and in particular verse 6, I realized that when I passed through periods of despair in my life I was so focused on the despair that I didn’t seek God’s help until I was awakened by the love shown me by someone close to me. The author of this Psalm must have faced the same kind of challenges we all face. He or she realized that God’s love is unrestricted and unconditional and as long as a human focuses on that fact, they are less likely to follow wicked purposes.
So, this Psalm is a guide on how to live our lives. Let’s heed this advice, celebrate God’s love for us and reflect his love to those around us.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father thank-you for loving us and sending us instruction through the Psalms. Help us to heed your guidance and Love so that we may reflect your love to others. Amen
