The scripture reading for today is Proverbs 28:5 KJV.
"Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the Lord understand all things."
Proverbs, or wise words, are observations and writings of Solomon, who asked God for wisdom -- this he was granted. As he ruled, he learned, and shared his knowledge.
Evil men are blinded by their own egos. To them, what is right means what is right for them alone, and what is fair is only fair if they get what they want. They know nothing of real righteousness and don't care to be fair. They feel they have absolutely no need to seek the Lord.
On the other hand, those who do seek the Lord, come to understand the difference between right and wrong, and want to be fair in all they do. They have been graced with the gift of discernment. Unfortunately -- or perhaps fortunately -- this doesn't mean we will understand all things pertaining to the world we now live in. We are not meant to have all the answers. It does mean that when we seek the Lord and follow the teachings, we will come to understand what God wants us to do so we may act justly, live humbly, be merciful, and know and act on what is right as opposed to wrong. It's a choice each individual makes. I realize my ego has gotten the better of me at certain times in my life, and I don't behave as I know I should. I don't like the power my ego can have over me, so I try hard to recognize when my thoughts are going in the wrong direction. A way I use to get back on the right track is to remember, "Jesus is the answer. What's the question?"
Most patient Lord, forgive us when we don't act properly, giving love and patience and mercy when it is right to do so. Grant us wisdom as we seek to follow Your word. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
