The scripture reading for today is 1 Corinthians 9:23

“I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

Paul’s ministry was focused on preaching the Gospel. In the book of Corinthians Paul writes from Ephesus during his third missionary journey to the people of Corinth having spent four years there, previously. He addresses issues impacting real people in this first century, after receiving word of disruption and division in the church. He emphasizes the importance of Christian behavior … shining our light into the dark places of the world by worshiping in a unified community. He reminds us in 1 Corinthians 6 vs 20: “You have been bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body.”

Early this morning I woke up with a list in my head; a list of many to-dos … key priorities for my role as Council President … as well as key priorities for my family and consulting business. The Spirit filled me as I sat down and read this verse and began to write this devotion.

The Spirit centered me … and Paul’s writing gave me words to start my day:

I do all this for the sake of the Gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

May his words and love for our Lord, God center you and give you words to start your day … today… and every day!
