The scripture for today is Psalm 145:1-8, NRSV.

1 I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. 2 Every day I will bless you, and praise your name forever and ever. 3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; his greatness is unsearchable.

4 One generation shall laud your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. 5 On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. 6 The might of your awesome deeds shall be proclaimed, and I will declare your greatness. 7 They shall celebrate the fame of your abundant goodness, and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.

8 The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

God is Good! All the Time! … AND … All the Time! God is Good!

Do you have any post-it-notes? Post these words on your mirror so you are greeted by them every day. Add more post-it-notes to your mirror … more words of praise for our God and King! If you have any questions about this, just ask one of our Living Lord disciples, Sherry Carrothers. She shared the power of this approach with me some years ago. Life-changing!

Psalm 145 is a hymn of praise. It is a wisdom psalm. It is an acrostic psalm … each verse beginning with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet so that it can be more easily remembered. It is attributed to King David who leads the Israelites and all of creation in words of praise and thanksgiving to God as king.

Do you start every morning with a prayer of thanksgiving? You might want to consider Martin Luther’s Morning Prayer. Just ask another of our Living Lord disciples, Maureen Baldwin. She shared a personal experience with us during Pastor’s Forum last year. She mentioned how the experience led her to this prayer. She prays this every morning.

I thank you, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.

Now, read the last verse in our bible passage (above): The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

God is Good! All the Time! … AND … All the Time! God is Good!

AMEN!
