The scripture reading for today is Psalm 51:10.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right (steadfast) spirit within me.”
The psalmist begins the psalm asking for forgiveness of sin and healing of the body. The assumption is that the psalmist was guilty of sin at conception and continues to have a sinful heart. Asking and pleading for a clean heart and a right or steadfast spirit brings the optimistic hope of forgiveness. The psalm continues with sharing the message of salvation and deliverance with others as a promise to God which is seen as better than a burnt offering.
How interesting that our theme this year at Living Lord has been SPEAK. We are to share with others the love of God and spread the Gospel. We are to talk to friends, neighbors and anyone who will listen. God is the one who will forgive our sins, creates a clean heart, and keep us on the right, steadfast path. God is the Almighty, and the same Ever-loving God throughout the ages. We need to work on keeping a clean heart. and using the spirit of the Lord to guide our steps. We should remember to speak the Word of the Lord to others.
Let us pray-Dear God, We ask that we always have a clean heart and willing spirt as we share your Word with others. We know that your salvation is the true joy and we are ever grateful for your forgiveness of our sins. Be near us always, day after day, so we may rejoice with your presence in our lives. Amen.
