The scripture reading for today is 1 Timothy 4:16 (NIV).

16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

Growing up there was a TV commercial for McDonald’s where a younger brother was always trying to emulate his older brother…. the message was that the older brother needed to be careful in leading his brother in the right way and to be a positive role model. As Christians, we tell others so much about our true beliefs, not just with words, but by our actions or lack of action. Christians are not perfect –that’s for sure! But we need to be sure our lives reflect our beliefs. If we, no…when we falter in our faith journey, we need to admit our failure and seek God’s mercy and forgiveness. We need others to know that we can, and will be forgiven by our heavenly Father, when we repent. This verse is written to remind us that we live in community, and our words and actions make a difference. So be intentional –in your actions and words. Also be honest when you stumble –it’s going to happen. I am so glad we have a gracious and merciful Father.

Dear God, Open my ears to hear Your word and guide me to live as a child of God. Amen
