The scripture for today is Luke 17:6
The Lord replied, "If you had faith the size of this mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, "Be uprooted and planted in the sea, " and it would obey you.
Some background information is needed to understand this verse. In previous verses, Jesus is giving his disciples examples to forgive others repeatedly even as others continue to sin against the disciples. People must be forgiven when they say they repent. Over and over we are to forgive just as we are forgiven when we ask for forgiveness. The apostles then ask Jesus to increase their faith. Jesus then uses the example of the faith of the mustard seed which is one of the smallest seeds and produces one of the strongest trees.
When I was nine years old, my oldest sister got married. I was a flower girl and Sue gave me a lovely mustard seed necklace to wear with my special flower girl dress. She told me the story of the mustard seed and faith. I have always cherished that time and remembered it to this day. I outgrew the necklace and may have misplaced it years ago. Faith will abide year after year after year. Even though the necklace is gone, my tiny mustard seed faith is still here.
Let us pray: Dear God, May all of us use the example that Christ gave us of continual forgiveness with repentance. Let us grow our faith as the tiny mustard seed grows and bloom with a beautiful harvest of love.

Prayer Concern: Pray for those who don't know how or feel unworthy to ask for forgiveness and most need it. Pray that our loving God will wrap them with acceptance and caring.
