The reading for today is Romans 3:25
“Whom God set forth as a propitiation place through faith in His blood, for the demonstrating of His righteousness, in that in His forbearance God passed over the sins that had previously occurred,"
I have enjoyed reading about and studying the Tabernacle in the Old Testament and all the furniture it contained. The cover of the Ark of the Covenant, which resided in the Holy of Holies of the Tabernacle, was called the mercy seat or the place of propitiation. Blood was sprinkled there from animal sacrifices and was symbolic of the blood that would be shed by Jesus on the cross.
As I think about God’s plan and the way he has chosen to share it with us throughout Scripture, the phrase that stands out to me from the passage above is for the demonstrating of His righteousness. Interesting, isn’t it, that God’s idea of a righteous response to our sin is to pass over it?
God, our Father, Jesus, our Savior, Holy Spirit, our Comforter, thank You for Your mercy, Your blood, Your presence and Your great love for us. Amen.
