The scripture for today is Matthew 17:22-23, NIV.
Jesus Predicts His Death a Second Time
22 When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. 23 They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life.” And the disciples were filled with grief.
As a disciple, I can’t imagine how I would feel after I had left everything to follow Jesus, only to finds out that he would be killed. What would that mean for my future? What would I do without Jesus? What does “raised to life on the third day” really mean? As followers of Jesus, the disciples must have known that His word was truth. He had shown them what it meant to be a disciple. They had seen His miracles and heard His word. In Matthew it says the disciples were “filled with grief”. It must have shaken them to the core to know that Jesus anticipated his own death. We have the advantage, as followers of Christ, to have the bible to show us the events that led up to his death and the empty tomb. We can celebrate His glorious resurrection from the dead and know that His sacrifice was for us so that we might have eternal life. His death and resurrection show that “God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 We are so blessed!
Dear God, Thank you for Your word that guides me and strengthens my soul. Help me not to fear what I do not understand and to trust in You. Amen.
