The scripture reading for today is Psalm 57:7.
“My heart is steadfast, O God,
My heart is steadfast;
I will sing and make music.
All cause for fear has been removed. The heart is steadfast, and it now feels secure.
This Psalm is a vow to praise. I will sing and make music.
Lutherans are known as the ones who sing the most hymns during their services, and this Psalm makes us smile and say, “Yes” to ourselves. We totally love our music, and our hymns are chock-full of words of praise like, How Great Thou Art.
One of the angelic ways we make music is with handbells. They sound so heavenly. One can close their eyes and mentally drift with the beautiful ringing sound as it fills the sanctuary. It ushers in a steadfast feeling of praise that fills your heart.
Oh, yes, we will sing and make music. What a perfect way to prepare our souls for the journey home to Him.
Alleluia! Let praises ring!
To God the Father let us bring,
Our songs of adoration.
To him through everlasting days,
Be worship, honor, power and praise,
Whose hand sustains creation.
Singing, ringing, holy, holy,
God is holy. Spread the story
Of our God, the Lord of glory.
