The scripture reading today is Matthew 10:12 NLT.
“When you enter the home, give it your blessing.”
Jesus called His 12 disciples and sent them out with those instructions. I think the key to understanding this short sentence is "the home." The preceding scripture (Matthew 10:11) says, "Whatever town or village you enter, find out who in it is worthy, let your peace come upon it;" In other words don't waste your time on homes with people who won't listen to you or be receptive to your message and gifts.
We all know that a home is much more than "a house." It has the character and personality of the people who live there. It has a neighborhood status and open responsibility with its neighbors. I think as we work to reflect these attributes in a positive and generous way they will make a home "worthy" and be responsive to Jesus' instructions and rewards.
Matthew 10:13 "If the house is worthy, let your peace come upon it;"
Dear Heavenly Father, I thank you for the blessings made available to me each day. I ask you to keep me sensitive to the gifts and needs of all I would consider as my neighbors.
