The reading for today is Luke 5:16 (NIV).
16 But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.
In today’s world, it is easy to skip prayer. We are always so busy with work projects, sports, hobbies, exercise, taking the kids to activities, etc. But Jesus was an awfully busy guy too! He was busy teaching to huge crowds every day, healing all kinds of diseases, He was calling and teaching His disciples, and don’t forget that He had to walk everywhere He went!
So, in today’s verse, Luke is giving us an example of what Jesus did, so that as followers we can imitate His actions. We have so much more to pray about than Jesus did. He had no sins to confess. Even though Jesus was God, and even though He was unbelievably busy, nothing seemed to deter Jesus from spending extensive time in prayer.
We need to reflect now on our own prayer life. In light of this passage of Scripture, what is keep us from spending time in prayer? Whatever it might be, we need to get it out of the way and spend time alone with God, taking our requests to Him, praising Him for His blessings upon us, and praying for His grace and enabling to be obedient. if you are too busy to pray, you are too busy. Let us pray and let us devote time to prayer. Jesus did, so should we.
Dear Lord, Help me to prioritize my life so that I have more time to be in discussion with You in prayer.
