The scripture for today is Psalms 62:1 (NIV version)
“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.”
What a wonderful verse! This world is very hectic, and in the middle of our busy lives we seldom stop and rest. If we do rest, we may not rest in God. One of the most meaningful things I have done in my life is to start my day quietly reading devotions and praying. I have not always done this, but about eight years ago I had some significant health issues and my faith was tried. Finding peace at that time was difficult to do. Then a couple of friends gave me separate devotion books. They changed my life! I am retired now, but I was so excited about these devotions that I would get up at 4:30 or 5:00 each morning before work in order to read the day’s devotion and pray. In a time of turmoil in my family’s and my life, this time spent with God was a quiet oasis of hope. During these quiet times, I felt God holding me close and an overwhelming feeling of peace would settle over me.
Now through good and bad times, I continue to spend this quiet time with God every day. He gives me rest. He gives me peace. I pray that he gives you peace as well as you spend quality time with Him!
Dear God, thank you for the rest you give us, if only we seek your presence. You are our salvation and hope in this hectic world. Let us always remember that You are the true source of hope and peace. Amen
