The scripture for today is Amos 5 verse 14.
14 Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the LORD God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is.
Amos was sent to as a prophet to the Israelites about 750 years before Christ. Much of chapter 5 calls for the Israelites to repent and change the way the treat others. They know God but have become complacent and comfortable with their lives. They don’t treat others with respect or love. Jesus preached a similar message to the people of Israel also. It is a much-needed message today.
There is a hymn that says, “they will know we are Christians by our love.” This is essentially what Amos was telling the Israelites. Look for the good, love your neighbors (no matter who they are) and follow Christ. It sounds so easy, but we have to keep learning it and recentering our lives to really embrace this message.
Dear Lord, make us aware of our drifting from your teachings and becoming complacent in our lives. Help us focus on loving others and being kind and considerate. Amen
