The scripture today is John 1:42, NIV.
And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter.)
I wonder what Peter thought when his brother first brought him to Jesus. I’m sure he had heard of Jesus and his teachings, but when he met him, Jesus told him his name would now be “Cephas” or “Peter”. Some scholars believe that Jesus considered Simon a weak name. Peter meant “rock” and perhaps Jesus was foretelling what Peter would become to the church. Peter had a glorious future ahead because of the grace of God.
When Jesus calls us by name, we too have a glorious future with Him. None of us know what the future holds, but God always has a plan. Isn’t it exciting to think about what He might have planned for us? We all have a place in His kingdom and a purpose in this world. If we listen closely and trust, we will be led to a future that is meant just for us!
Dear Lord, thank you for making a plan for our lives and give us the patience to wait to see what you have in store for us. Amen
