The reading for today is Isaiah 1:2
“Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for the LORD has spoken: “Children have I reared and brought up, but they have rebelled against Me.”
I read an excellent book by Ravi Zacharias recently titled, I, Isaac, Take Thee, Rebekah. (I highly recommend it.) One of the comments I remember from the book was about the pain a parent can experience when their child walks away from God. I know that pain. Somehow, I was comforted to know that others are feeling it too and we are all praying together for our children.
In this portion of Isaiah, we find that God clearly understands this pain. He had done all for Judah only to have His children turn their backs on Him. How often in my life I have done the same? It might not have been to worship an idol, but I have certainly made choices in my lifetime that moved me away from God rather than closer. I am so grateful He was always still reaching out for me as I know He is also to my children.
Lord God Almighty, I am certain I am not alone in lifting a prayer for my children who have walked away from the life of faith in which they were raised. I pray also for the children of others as we stand together in asking that You would soften their hearts to return to You. Amen.
