The scripture reading for today is 1 Corinthians 10 verse 17.
17 Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all share the one loaf.
Prior to verse 17 In his letter to the Corinthians, Paul talks to them about not repeating the sins of their ancestors because they are the body of the church of Christ. He infers that because they are one body together that they need to stand strong together for the good ways of Christ.
This message is as important today as it was when Paul wrote this letter. Together we stand as the followers of Christ. If we follow his preaching and teachings to do what is right in the world, we will be strong. What does it mean to be strong? I focus on the golden rule from Matthew 7 verse 12: “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. To me this means being kind and offering grace when I have sinned and helping others when they have fallen. All to often I have judged others harshly. This judgement has not done me or others any good. As a member of a fallen humanity I need to remind myself that I was put here on earth to have a relationship with all of God’s children and to work in his ways. For we all share the “one loaf” that is our relationship with Christ. So let us help lift up the world with his good ways.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father help me to open my eyes to the needs of those around me both near and far away. I need your vision of what our world can become as I grow in your ways. Amen
