Today’s Reading is Psalm 9:1
I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of Your wonderful deeds.
We sang a song in church when I was growing up called “Count Your Blessings.” The chorus went like this:
Count your blessings
Name them one by one
Count your many blessings
See what God has done.
I read a blog post by a young, Christian woman in China when the pandemic began. She had been writing about the mandatory lockdown of their apartment complex and updating the rest of the world each day about how things were going there. Near the end of her lockdown, her husband asked if she had written anything positive. She asked what there was to be positive about? He asked her to consider what she was thankful for and write about it. She ended up writing a beautiful post about hearing birds sing for the first time from her city apartment balcony and about how much time she was getting to spend with her family and about how much she hates grocery shopping and doesn’t have to any more since food was being delivered to the complex.
This may seem a strange time to ask, considering the year we’ve been having but what are you thankful for today?
Lord, thank You. Thank you for the sun, rain, the air I breathe, my family’s health, my job, my church family, my friends. Thank You for Your mercy, grace, love, life and light. Amen.
