The reading for today is Psalm 98:1.
Oh, sing to the Lord a new song!
For He has done marvelous things;
His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.
My first impression is that this is a song of rejoicing for a victory in war. The kind of war that David would have fought, against some giants or heavily armored men. So, what's that got to do with little old me?
I'll sing a new song of praise because I'm walking and moving about without pain in my knee or back.
I'll sing a new song of thanks because I arrived home safely after driving through a rainstorm.
I'll sing a new victory song because God gave me the strength to pick the phone to call a friend instead of picking up that bottle of wine after a tough day.
I'll sing a new song in gratitude because God has given me a house to raise my family even though things break down. Glory to you oh Lord because you've given me a job to pay for these repairs.
Every day, in so many ways, some big and some little, the enemy is attacking us. Every time we open ourselves up to our Lord and Savior and follow His commands, we've won.
Glory to you Lord God! You are the Almighty one who brings us our victory! Day in and day out, from everlasting to everlasting. You are our Awesome God!
