The reading is for today is 2 John 1:8:

“Be on your guard, so that you do not lose what we have worked for, but may receive a full reward.”

John starts off this letter to a woman he knows saying how excited he is that the children of the woman are 'walking in the truth'. Immediately though, he speaks about being wary of those who would come and spread words that are not the Good News. As a parent and youth leader, this warning resonates with me. I always find myself wondering, are the things we teach in confirmation or youth group going to stick with these kids or will something more tempting distract them?

Jesus taught us over and over to love one another in all we do. We have to be vigilant in abiding these words so that all will see and hear them each and every day. The more often we profess God's love for His children and demonstrate that love to each other, the less likely will those other tempting messages will push in.

Love God. Love others.

Almighty and Everlasting Lord, shower us with your love today so that we can in turn love those around us. Amen
