The scripture for the day is: Luke 6:21 (NIV version) .
” Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh.”
When Jesus spoke to his disciples with these words, part of the Beatitudes, he was encouraging them. There were so many who hungered not only for food, but hungered for more of the word of God. There was sadness in the lives of those who came to see Jesus speak. This was at the very beginning of the church and at the beginning of Jesus’ teachings. People were hungry for hope and this man called Jesus was giving it to them. He told them that these things were only temporary and there was a better life for those who believed.
These days people need the hope that only God can give. We look at what is happening in the world and weep for those affected by the weather, wars, random violence, and hunger. We weep for those who do not know God or are angry with Him. When we have these feelings, it is time to stop and read again these beautiful words of God. What we cannot do, He is perfecting capable of doing.
Please pray with me. Dear God, There are so many things going on in the world that make us weep and feel frustrated with our inability to help, so much so that we lose hope. Dear Lord, remind us always that You are in charge. Remind us to lay our sorrow and hunger for You at your feet. Amen
