May 30, 2020 Daily Devotion

The reading for today is Psalm 33, 12 – 22, NIV.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He chose for His inheritance. From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from His dwelling place He watches all who live on earth – He who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do. No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. We wait in hope for the Lord; He is our strength and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You.

God’s word beautifully and meaningfully speaks even in our present time. I think this devotion is about to write itself! At the hour of this composition, we sit in fear and chaos amidst a pandemic. We look to Scientists, to Doctors, to Political Leaders and they simply do not have answers. Please don’t misunderstand, many of them have brains the inner workings of which I cannot fathom and they are dedicated to making a positive difference. But without God, our army and our strength are unequal to the task.

Perhaps, by the time this is actually shared, someone will have discovered a COVID cure. Either way, the lesson is the same. We need at all times to seek divine intervention first. Our first hope needs to be in God and not people, for “He is our strength and our shield.”

Prayer for the day: “May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You.” And God please heal our world us in a mighty way, a way that clearly shows the world who Jesus is.

Prayer Concern: It occurs to me that the evil one is finding another way to divide us. We can be Republican or Democrat, CNN or FOX news people. Now it seems we are falling into the categories of the shelter at home vs the go back to work quickly people. Once again, when this is sent out, I don’t know what the world will be like. By God’s grace, let’s unite and not divide, so we can stand, and emerge thankful and unashamed.

“Jesus is the Answer!”
