The scripture for today is 2 Kings 2:13-15.
Elisha picked up Elijah's cloak, which had fallen when he was taken up. Then Elisha returned to the bank of the Jordan River. He struck the water with Elijah's cloak and cried out, "Where is the LORD, the God of Elijah?" Then the water divided, and Elisha went across.
When the group of prophets from Jericho saw from a distance what happened, they exclaimed, "Elijah's spirit rests upon Elisha!" And they went to meet him, and they bowed to the ground before him.
What an exclamation and scene! Isn't God powerful? To be taken up by God was unbelievable. Elijah's mantle was a lot for Elisha to take up. Elijah lived a full life beyond king Ahas' rule. His influence as a prophet during the influence of Baal added to the challenge of leading the children of God.
I remember the works of Billy Graham and how he captured the audience during his evangelical crusades. He brought many to understand God and walk with Jesus. This is how I imagined Elijah and Elisha lead the people.
We see Elijah again during the Transfiguration. God used Elijah again to bring his message. Elisha was also a key prophet for the people of God. He took up his mantle when he used Elijah's cloak to part the waters.
We all become influencers with the mantle of Jesus. Now is the time to take up His mantle.
Pray for your brothers and sisters during these challenging times and do what you can to help others.
