The scripture for today is John 15 1 -5.
The Vine and the Branches
15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes[a] so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.
5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
Jesus describes his place in the kingdom of God in these verses from John. God is the creator and shaper of our world. He planted us here to be in relationship with him. Christ Jesus was sent to reconnect us to God when we did not understand the depth of his love for us. The beauty of this message is as true today as it was when John wrote these verses.
Verses 1 and 2 describes the reality that if you are not in harmony with Jesus you will wither and die because you are not connected to the love, he has for each of us. It is difficult to grow in our world without a mentor to share your hopes and dreams with. Christ and his teachings provide perfect mentorship in the simplicity of his message. If we live a life grounded in his teachings, we can with stand both the good and the difficult occurrences each of us face in our life. We just need to share our hopes, dreams, and challenges with him through prayer. Prayer keeps us connected to him and his wisdom.
Verse 4 is a description of the benefit of connecting with Christ. If we stay connected to him, we can grow even when life challenges us and if we always remain connected, we will be fruitful.
Let us pray: Heavenly Father thank you for your love and guidance. Thank you for sending Jesus to lead and love us. Help us to understand your teachings and grow in the light of your love. Amen.
