The scripture reading for today is Philippians 2; 1-4.
“Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? 2 Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.
3 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. 4 Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.”
Five years or ago, I asked a wise retired pastor what Living Lord should do about our upcoming pastor retirement. He said, “Pay off the church.”
The implication I took away was that after the retirement, the participation would go down and so would giving. I understand many churches that have a loved, long-term pastor retire (not just Lutheran) the church has a hard time “Connecting” as it did in the past.
Over the last 5 or 6 months, I have been comforted in God’s love and fellowship with Living Lord disciples as our family has not been connecting less and in many ways, we’ve been connecting more.
Over the last thirty-nine years, we’ve been equipped, and we have spiritual gifts that have maintained a very high level of connectedness.
