When . . . we sin
“For our sake God made Jesus to be sin who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21
When… we sin… God made Jesus to be sin. He, who knew no sin, became it for our sake.
When… we sin… it tears us away from God. It tears us away from our true selves. It tears us away from others, the ones with whom we have been created for fellowship and fulfillment.
When… we sin… we die.
The life of Jesus is purposefully for us and for all of broken humanity. The life of Jesus is God’s way of joining us in this life that is so wonderful and so challenging at the same time.
+ Jesus came because we cannot find our way to eternal life by ourselves.
+ Jesus came because we cannot find our way back to the beginning by ourselves.
+ Jesus searches and find us on the back streets and in the alleys.
+ Jesus finds us asking the wrong questions, following incomplete maps.
+ Jesus finds us asking the right questions of the wrong people
+ Jesus brings light where there is no light.
+ Jesus speaks love into a world filled with hateful language.
+ Jesus is reconciliation between people who refuse to talk or cannot listen.
+ Jesus took on our broken lives to make us whole. He became sin. That is, He entered life in a world separated from God to bring us back.
Jesus did it all so that we might become what God intended from the very beginning. That is, children of God. That is, brothers and sisters with one another. That is, the truest and best selves we might be.
“For our sake…” That’s love even when… we sin.
