The reading for today is Isaiah 50:7-9a, NIV.
7 Because the Sovereign LORD helps me,
I will not be disgraced.
Therefore, have I set my face like flint,
and I know I will not be put to shame.
8 He who vindicates me is near.
Who then will bring charges against me?
Let us face each other!
Who is my accuser?
Let him confront me!
9 It is the Sovereign LORD who helps me.
Who will condemn me?
They will all wear out like a garment;
the moths will eat them up.
Isaiah 50: 7-9a (NIV)
Recently I was in search of some baby clothes stored in our basement that I planned to give to my daughter who recently had a baby. I was dismayed to find that many were stained, and I can assure you that they were stored away in good condition -clean and with great care.
However, garments can be ruined through use or from those pesky moths that seem to love old clothes.
In this passage, Isaiah speaks of those who speak against him. He says his accusers will wear out like a garment and will be eaten up by moths. This image resonates with me tonight as I look at the clothes I lovingly stored. We know nothing on this earth will last, so we should focus on the promises of what awaits us when we live in the presence of our heavenly Father.
We know that nothing will rust, fade, or wear away in God’s glorious kingdom, and that perfection is prepared for His own people. His saving grace is ours. Look to God’s promises as He is steadfast and true.
Dear God, Please guide me in your ways and lead me to follow your precepts. Amen
