When… Jesus was Challenged for Being Graceful
“All this is from God, Who reconciled us to Himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:18
When… Jesus was challenged for being too graceful He told a story of grace and reconciliation. He doubled down on grace. Jesus was God in the flesh reconciling God to all humanity.
“Father, forgive them.” (Luke 23:34) “I do not condemn you. Go and sin no more.” (John 8:11) “This is the cup of the new covenant poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sin. Do this…” (1 Corinthians 11:25) Jesus lived the Spirit of reconciliation.
Jesus is the embodiment of a ministry of reconciliation. On earth Jesus breathed on the disciples, giving them His Spirit and saying, “As the Father sent Me so I send you…” (John 20:21) Jesus knew He was sent by the Father to proclaim good news, release to the captive and the year of the Lord’s favor. (Luke 4:18-19) We are now the ones who have been sent to SPEAK the Good News (God for all in Jesus), enact release for the captives (Those caught in sin, death and the devil) and announce the years of God’s favor (Favor = Grace).
After Jesus breathed on the disciples and co-missioned them, He said, “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven.” (John 20:23) With the breath of the Holy Spirit Jesus has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
What are we going to do with this co-mission and ministry?
