The scripture for today is Philippians 1:1-5, NIV.

1 Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all God’s holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons: 2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,

In his letter to the Philippians Paul starts with a heart felt greeting to let the people know that even though he is far away he thinks, prays and advocates for them because they are a part of God’s family. Paul is the ultimate cheer leader and he recognized the Philippians for their positive nature and their embrace of the good news that is the life of Christ.

When I think of the trials and tribulations of the disciples and the early followers of Christ, I stand in amazement that we have come as far as we have come in the last 2,000 years. The spark that ignited the flame of Christianity burns hot today in the hearts of the Christian church because communities like the Philippians embraced Christ and spread the news. Paul recognized their special bond with Christ, and we should do the same today. Our world today is faced with challenges that flow from Satan into the hearts of many. It is only through recognizing God’s love as presented in Christ’s life and death that we can continue to live in such a turbulent world and push back the darkness.

As we prepare for Easter and to recognize Christ’s sacrifice lets pray today and every day that more modern communities recognize the good news and help spread the love that is the news of Christ.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father thank-you for loving us and sending Christ to break the chains of sin that hold us. Help us to embody his love and spread the good news to all communities here on earth. Amen
