When… we are thirsty or hungry

“Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters…” Isaiah 55:1

What makes you thirsty? Hot days? Long labor? Working out? Running? Long talking? What makes you thirsty? Because everyone gets thirsty. Our bodies are skin envelopes of water. Water is life. Everyday living makes us thirsty. Thirst is evidence that our bodies are actually working. Thirst is a good sign, it means we are alive!

Living water is water on the move. Living water is an image used throughout the Bible. Living water is what God promises to God’s beloved. Which is one way of saying, “I will give you life.” God promises water for the thirsty. That is, water for the living.

God promises to give water for the thirsty who are living in the wilderness and the desert. God promises water to the ones who have no other access to the water.

When Israel was taking its 40 year walk through the wilderness during the Exodus. Water was one of the reasons they grumbled. At one stop they located water but it was bitter. It was unhealthy and unwholesome water. I was water that left everyone thirsty even after they had consumed their fill. God instructed Moses to strike a rock and there flowed water from the rock that quenched the thirst of the people.

God is the water giver.

+ Are you thirsty for love? Come to the waters.

+ Are you thirsty for hope? Come to the waters.

+ Are you thirsty for justice? Come to the waters.

God is the water giver.

“As the deer longs for flowing streams…” Psalm 42:1

“I will give a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:14

“Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life ...flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb.“ Revelation 22:1

Come to the waters!
