When… Jesus was in danger
“Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish My work.” Luke 13:32
On the third day... We know what happened then. “The “finish” of Jesus’ work was the Resurrection from the dead on the “third day.” Victory over death. Light bursting out of the darkness. Love winning over hate. Faith victorious over fear!. One more time: “Do not be afraid, He is Risen, just as He said!” On the third day.
On the first day, Jesus was casting out demons, calling out evil, challenging the powers that seem to have such a grip on human life. On the first day, Jesus was showing Himself to be Lord over everything that diminishes life, He was breaking chains and standing up to the devil’s minions. On the first day, He was being revealed as the One we are all looking for. Will we see Him on the first day? Today?
On the second day, Jesus was curing the hurts of humanity as He went from place to place. On the second day, He was healing the broken lives and broken hearts of people. Even when they didn’t know what was most broken, He knew. On the second day, He was pointing people to the future past their broken yesterday. “I am the Lord of the living and of the dead.” On the second day, a very dark Saturday, people thought they had gotten rid of Him, but He was still working, healing the most broken of all places. He had descended to hell itself. Will we recognize Him on the second day? Today?
And on the third day.. Oh the Glorious Third Day! We look forward to the third day even as we wrestle with the temptations and push through the fear and hope in Him Who offers us life and love and forgiveness and purpose. We look forward to that third day!
On the third day He finishes His work. And we will see Him! On the third day…
