The scripture reading for today is John 7:37.
“On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. “
I have had a few pivotal moments in my life where I have realized that I am thirsting for something more. When I first moved to Wichita, I was immediately reconnected with old friends and was consumed by my new exciting job. I was living the exact life I wanted, but one day my world was turned upside down and I realized my life was missing something. I was thirsting for something more satisfying to my soul.
Thankfully, the Holy Spirit flowed through me and called me to become more connected to the community in Wichita. I quickly became a Big Sister for Big Brothers Big Sisters and joined the advisory board for the Wichita YMCA. I thought these would be opportunities for me to help other people, but I never could have imagined what these experiences would do for me. My Little’s family has become my family in Wichita, and I have found such joy at the YMCA.
If we chose to live as we please and indulge in sin, we will continue to quench for more. But the more we learn of Jesus through the scripture and walk with Him in obedience, the more his life will flow through us. The Holy Spirit is living water inside of us, renewing us, refreshing us, empowering us, satisfying our spiritual thirst, and giving us life. What has the Spirit call you to do today? You never know how your cup may overflow with joy when you listen to and obey the Holy Spirit.
Lord, I am sorry for all the times that I think I have known what is best for my life. Help me to focus my heart and mind you and your word, so that I may be sustained with your holy waters. Amen
