Te scripture for today is John 14:15-17

15 “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

Jesus tells his disciples that they will not be alone after He ascends to heaven. They will have the Holy Spirit to surround and comfort them.

In our recent Lenten study of Paul’s Letter to the Philippians, we read of Paul being in prison in dismal conditions. He did not despair. Paul had the Holy Spirit to comfort him. He used his time in prison to spread the good news of Jesus to his fellow prisoners and the Roman guards.

We have been confined in our lives by the stay-at-home orders. While nothing like the desperate conditions faced by others, we have been without being in the physical presence of our extended families and fellow parishioners. Through the modern technologies, we are able to virtually worship and visit with those close to us. The Holy Spirit is with us for comfort and support in our faith. And all we have to do is love Jesus and obey his commands.

Dear Lord, thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to us! We are blessed to have You with us always through the Holy Spirit. Help us each day to spread your word to those we meet. Amen
