The reading for today is Luke 9:57.
And as they went along the road, someone said to Him, I will follow You wherever You go.
As a teen I was part of a group that sang special music in church. Several of the songs we sang talked about how we would sacrifice all, give up anything, do whatever necessary to follow Jesus. I meant it when I sang it but I didn’t fully understand what I was saying at the time. I had no idea how many things in my life were out of line with His plan for me, my spiritual growth, my equipping for ministry.
If you go on to read the rest of this passage you will see that Jesus addresses this very problem. When I was young and I read this passage, I believed it applied to other people but not to me. Now I see how very much it applies to me and I am so grateful for His patient grace.
Lord Jesus, Father God, Holy Spirit, help me to cooperate fully with Your will. Open my eyes to have an awareness of the areas in my life in need of transformation. I want to fully understand what it means to completely give my heart to You and follow You wherever You go. Amen.
