The reading for today is from Psalm 69:16-18.
16 Answer me, LORD, out of the goodness of your love; in your great mercy turn to me.
17 Do not hide your face from your servant; answer me quickly, for I am in trouble.
18 Come near and rescue me; deliver me because of my foes.
I find myself listening to the news media more during these trying times than any other time in my life. Each day seems filled with reporters, experts, and regular people speaking out on their thoughts. You also seem to hear lots of people crying out on what they deserve or what they should or should not be receiving. Many of them get very worked up in the process of conveying their thoughts.
In this Psalm, David obviously wants to hear from God. He needs God to answer. I know there have been times when I felt the same as David. But David understood his relationship with God. We are not deserving or entitled to anything from God. We receive everything out of the love and mercy of God and coming to God with that understanding and point of view makes all the difference in cementing our relationship with our Father.
Dear Lord, Help us to come to you with our needs. Help us to be honest and forthright as we humbly ask for your guidance and support. Amen.
