Scripture for the day is Psalm 65:9-13, NIV.
“You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it.
You drench its furrows and level its ridges.
You soften it with showers and bless its crops. You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance.
The grasses of the wilderness overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness.
The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; They shout for joy and sing.”
Beauty. Abundance. Bounty. What a glorious place God has given us! I imagine the author of this Psalm on top of a hill looking over the beauty of the fields, valleys, and streams. I imagine his overwhelming joy that God has once again provided for the world and its people.
One of my favorite times of the day is early in the morning when I wake up, throw open my back-screen door, and look out at the beautiful morning. When I read my devotions and pray, I hear the birds singing and smell the fresh air around me. I recently returned from a trip to the Grand Canyon. Everywhere I turned there were awe inspiring views. I felt humbled that God loved us so much that He gave us so much beauty to enjoy during our time here on Earth. He provides for our every need, but He also provides us with the thrill of living in this world of natural beauty.
Dear God, thank you for the beauty of the Earth and how you provide for us every day. Let us always appreciate what you have given us and play our part in preserving this world and providing for all your children. Amen
