The scripture reading for today is Jeremiah 51, Verse 51, KJV.
"We are confounded, because we have heard reproach: shame hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of the Lord's house."
The writer begins with the word "confounded". They have become annoyed. They have to accept strangers into the Lord's house. They did not get their way. They do not approve.
Have you ever felt this way? Of course! Have you ever felt this way in church? Probably. Were you ever on the receiving end of being reproached? Most likely. What could we do so this does not happen to anyone?
We pray the Lord’s Prayer in church. Read the words of this prayer. We ask to forgive those who trespass against us as we trespass them. We are not without sin. No one is.
The word "shame" is used in the verse. By today's standards, there is no shame in this world. Some will give me an argument. Yet, we see the evolution of change and acceptability of everything. All without any shame. It starts small then builds to a movement. People do petty crimes without any shame. People speak against each other without shame. Shame is a word no longer used.
If there was ever a time when the love of Jesus is needed, it is now. Pray for those who need his love. Pray for those who have fell into the trap of not knowing about sin and not knowing about forgiveness. Pray for those who remain silent due to the fear of not being accepted by the world. Great is the power of God in Christ. Accept what Jesus has in store for your life. Accept strangers with Christian love. Jesus would!
Thank you, Lord, for the love you shower me with. Help me to accept what Jesus has in store for me today.
