The scripture for today is Romans 10:4.
4 “Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.”
The book of Romans was a letter by Paul to the believers in Rome. This group was a mixture of Roman Jews and Roman Gentiles who had relationship problems between them based on how they interpreted God’s message of salvation. This verse describes to me how Paul is trying to level the “playing field” between these two groups in the church.
The Jews had believed in the law and their understanding of what God wanted them to believe was based in that law. The Gentiles were trying to gain knowledge through their association with the Jews and God’s prophets. Who was correct would be confusing in a mixed group. So, Paul wrote to explain the good news so that all could understand.
God changed the “play” when he sent Jesus. He said I realize that even though you are trying to follow me you are a fallen people unable to achieve life without sin. So, God changed the “play” on our field by sending Jesus to live and then die for us. This perfect gift was so perfect that it is hard for any human to understand this unconditional love.
So, Paul understanding this ultimate gift; clarified God’s love in this letter to the church in Rome and now to us as we read his message.
So, as we continue to grow and mature let’s remember Paul’s wise words that: Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
Let us Pray: God help us to understand your love and the promise of eternal life with you. Every day can be a challenge to our faith; please guide us to you. Amen
