The scripture reading for today is John 6:47.
“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”
You know, this is so simple and to the point, it brings a tear to my eye. How easy it is to receive the gift of salvation!
I don't know about you, but I have a hard time receiving. Whether it's a present, a compliment or just a random kind act, I feel embarrassed, or undeserving or worried that I didn't give enough in return. I guess it is our sinful nature, that causes us over complicate things. We forget, we aren't dealing with another human who judges on that level. We are dealing with our God, who's mercy is from everlasting to everlasting. No wonder our Lord also tells us, "become like a little child." Watch next time you give a little kid a present. They don't question, they just receive and rejoice. That's all we have to do. Believe with that simple, unshakable trust that we are His. We don't have to be perfect, because He was. He gave up his perfect life to secure our place in heaven at His side. Love like that is overwhelming. Don't try to understand. Just receive and rejoice!
Dear Jesus, I thank you for your endless mercy and love. I am your child and I receive your gift of salvation. Remind me to walk in joy each day because I know the next stop on this journey leads me right to you! Amen.
