The scripture for today is Psalm 140: 6.
“I say to the LORD, "You are my God." Hear, LORD, my cry for mercy”
I can imagine David, on his knees, crying out to God in utter hopelessness and helplessness. It's easy to imagine because I've been there. All my efforts, schemes, manipulations, pleas, tantrums, have done nothing but made my situation worse. In desperation, I fall to my knees and pray. Kneeling there, I realize, my last resort should have been my first.
God, you are MY God. All powerful, all knowing and overflowing with love and mercy. Forgive me for not coming to you first! Have mercy on me for my pride, thinking I could fix this mess. Now I'm turning it over to you. I'm sorry I didn't remember your words:
With God, all things are possible. You can fix this; you can do anything. I humbly ask you now: guide me, rescue me from my own mistakes, help me. But most of all strengthen my faith, that I might have your peace in the midst of this storm, knowing you're in charge. Thank you, Lord. Amen.
