The reading for today is Psalm 119:99 (NIV).
“I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.”
The practical skills and knowledge that teachers impart are not the focus of this verse, but rather the spiritual lessons that should guide our lives. Human teaching is fallible and limited, but God’s word is pure truth. Statutes are laws or decrees made by God, and therefore should be the basis of our beliefs and should guide our actions. It is important to remember that these statutes are not meant to limit our freedoms, but to keep us living as His children. Instead of a long list of restrictions, Jesus simplified the commandments into two. Jesus said: 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.' Matthew 22:37-40
As we face a new day, let us look for opportunities to share God’s love with all those we meet and to share the Good News of love, forgiveness, and new life that is offered freely from our great Savior!
Dear God, Let Your light shine in our hearts so that we may be righteous in Your sight. Amen
