The scripture reading for today is Joshua 23:8.
“But you are to hold fast to the Lord your God, as you have until now.”
Here we find Joshua in his old age addressing the elders, leaders, judges and officials. He is telling them that God will drive their enemies out of their way. As the Lord’s servant, he recalls the victories the Lord has given, but also reminds the people of areas yet to be possessed and the need to be loyal to God’s covenant laws. Their mission remains – to be the people of God’s Kingdom in the world.
Even though they have been faithful, Joshua is reinforcing the necessity for them to remain loyal. He concludes his address by telling them, “So be very careful to love the Lord your God.”
Joshua’s instruction is perfect for our daily lives. If we would just live our lives by the ancient Book of the Law from the time of Moses, many of the pitfalls of life in our abundant world would be avoided. Just do it.
Dear Lord, please walk with me today showing that I am part of God’s Kingdom in the world.
