The reading for today is Mark 1: 21-25, NIV.
21 They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. 22 The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. 23 Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, 24 “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
25 “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!”
As I was reading today’s verses, it struck me that even the possessed man’s evil spirit knew that Jesus was “the Holy One of God”. Only 4 words were used to command the spirit to come out. His word has power. Jesus not only had the power to drive out impure spirits, He has the power to fill our very beings with joy, compassion and song.
As our creator, we know we can turn to Him for solace when we are hurting, strength when our fails, and for renewed purpose in how we live our lives. When you are looking for peace within yourself, purpose beyond yourself and joy, turn to the One who has the answers and power to fill your soul. Trust in the One who treasures you and calls you His own.
Dear God, Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me. Amen.
