The scripture for today is Jeremiah 36:15, New Living Translation.
“Sit down and read the scroll to us,” the officials said, and Baruch did as they requested.
Throughout all times, I believe even today, God has sent His prophets to remind His people of how He expects us to live. In our verse today, the prophet, Jeremiah, had used his scribe, Baruch, to write down God’s instructions. But the Kings of Israel had continued to ignore the prophets and even do harm to them. So, in this case, Jeremiah is in hiding.
Baruch was very courageous and agreed to read the scroll, giving God’s instructions, to the king’s leaders. But, much like today, when the king was presented with God’s Word, he threw the scrolls into the fire.
The God of the Old Testament, which is our same grace-filled God of today, wanted His people to turn away from their evil ways. He hoped the people would hear, pray and repent. Funny how history repeats itself! God wants the same things from us today.
Dear God, I pray that you continue to write Your Word upon my heart today. Your covenant reminds us that You will be faithful to us, even when we fail to remain faithful to you.
