The scripture reading for today is Matthew 4 verse 19, KJV.
"And he saith unto them, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."
The day that I am writing this happens to be Christmas day. My complete assignment was from verses twelve to twenty-three. It is the story of Jesus' beginnings of his ministry. He left Nazareth and began preaching. Verse seventeen gives us his words, "Repent: for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand." How true was that?
Yet, how true are those words today? Jesus is constantly calling us to partake in his kingdom. He calls us to be a part of God's kingdom. Jesus is eternal, just like God. This is part of faith. That which is the constant now. We are to be in the present, not the future or past.
As for us, we too are called to be "fishers" of men. We are to be witnesses for what God and Jesus has done in our lives. We are to follow him. Jesus is our light in the world. So too, our light must shine. Tough to do these days. Yet, Jesus' words are no different that when he started his ministry. The Kingdom of God is truly at hand!
Lord, we pray for your help in our witness of Jesus in our lives. We pray for you to give us the words to be fishermen for mankind. We pray for you to sustain us in faith.
